Concerns increasingly rise as the world rushes to 2012. Some people believe it is the end of the world. But many are wary to jump fast into this belief. For that is what it is after all, a belief. It has begun as a myth and escalates into a hype. Once confined in the classrooms, the story of the Mayan Calendar dating system got out, went around, and yielded a disaster movie. What is confounding about the Mayan horology is the long span of time it keeps track. It covers a 5,125-year era, beginning on August 11, 3114 B.C. and ending on December 21, 2012. It is so long that the calendar has outlived the Mayas who counted down the days only up to 900 A.D. After that, the great Mayan cities and temples were mysteriously overran by the jungles. It now bugs certain people that the human race will also go in the way of the Mayas: dead or wiped off the face of the earth. Is there really a cause for dread in the Year2012?

Do You Know What to Do if You Get Stranded?
Survival skills are pretty much necessary for everyone; women, men, and children. You never know when you could get stranded and you’ll need survival skills to survive! If you ever do get stranded the first thing you need to do is stop and check out your surroundings. You want to make sure there’s nothing that could put you in danger. Then you need to come up with a plan that could help you get out of the situation such as, setting up a s.o.s signal. Unfortunately you may not get rescue right away, so if not you need to find water first. You then to create a fire, and boil the water. You can collect berries, which could be a good idea and may not be at the same time because they may be poisonous. If your unsure then don’t eat it! Find a different food source instead, if your by water go fishing. There are many more things you need to do to survive and these are just a few, but remember before you do anything STOP and look at your surroundings.
Store Your Books
A stackable folding bookcase helps to save a lot of space in your room or office and yet store a lot of things that are needed. You can get the things you require without taking time to search if you are using this simple but very useful tool. When you decide buying stackable folding bookcases, you have to consider the space availability of the room as these are available as 3 or 4 tiers. A 3 tier is the practical size of home requirements. If you want a bigger one to store more4 things then you can buy the other. You can choose between a one that has a natural wood finish that has a lighter shade depending on the type of wood that is used and the wooden one that has a darker shade. On the other hand if you want to buy one that is made of metal you will have a wide range of color selection.
A Kid Who Wants to Have Height Insole
I was watching a late night television talk show last night. I was amazed that there is now called height insoles that you can slip into your shoes and whoala! An instant extra height for men and women out there who want an extra lift.
The show featured an elevated shoe for men and women. Insole heights are ranging from 1 inch to 4 inches in height. Also it comes with stylish designed that is very elegant. This was cleverly designed by the height experts and famous designers, so if you are a fashion freak, do not be worried.
I was laughing when they interviewed ordinary people what were their thought on height insole and one the kids said he want to have it too for him to be able to reach the height limits on the adult rides at the amusement parks. That made me realized that height insoles are useful to kids too.

In the fifth grade we are currently studying measurement. “Twenty-four,” the number alone & isolated communicates no information. Yet a number combined with a unit of measure communicates a great deal of information. Twenty-four M&Ms, twenty four grams of M&Ms, twenty-four packs of M&Ms, twenty-four cubic centimeters of M&Ms. These are all very different amounts. As we explore measurement, the students are building their scientific vocabulary, developing spatial ability, and using proportional reasoning. We explore common measurement units, learn how to accurately read fractions on rulers, and practice converting between units.

Come to math night this Thursdayand learn more about overall SOF math curriculum! In sixth grade we are working our way through Bits & Pieces II, our unit on Fraction Operations. At the beginning of the unit we have explored different models for thinking about addition and subtraction of fractions and spent some time writing algorithms for those operations. Currently we are working on multiplying fractions and thinking about what it means when two fractions are multiplied. I’m enjoying the rich discussions we’re getting into and I look forward to seeing where we go next!
